Horse Training

When we are not providing our guests with our highly rated instructional riding holidays, we are kept busy providing education and training for client's horses, non-residential riders and those requiring a helping hand and advice with their own horses.

  • Initial Training
  • Backing
  • Bringing on
  • Schooling
  • Remedial Schooling
  • Remedial Behavioural Training

We at Gilfach have earned a reputation for backing and bringing on, initial schooling, more advanced schooling, rehabilitation of "problem horses" and preparation of horses for sale, in an intelligent, professional and sympathetic manner.

We take account of the nature of each horse's behaviour, and with understanding, patience and all round good horsemanship, are able to convince each of our charges that working with us is rewarding, thus working against us is not usually an option they choose.

Time is spent with each horse on teaching and encouraging good human-horse interaction, developing a mutual trust and respect, and increasing the capabilities/performance of the horse.

Horses that leave Gilfach are ready, willing and able to continue their development with trust and confidence, and happy to oblige their rider/handler in tackling new tasks/experiences.

We ensure the horse is physically and mentally fit enough to perform what is asked of him/her, with gradual increases in the complexity of the work asked.

Nothing is forced. No short-cuts are taken. The speed of progress is entirely determined by the horse's response, thus ensuring that he/she leaves Gilfach calm, confident and capable.

We aim to ensure that all the horses are ready to fit in with the needs and wishes of their owners before their departure. Owners are given appropriate instruction in handling and riding their horse before they go off to continue their special relationship at home. We offer help, support and advice for owners when ever it is needed after the horse has left us.

Horses coming to Gilfach for training/livery are required to have had Flu and Tetanus innoculation, be wormed to date, have had their teeth attended to by a qualified dental technician, to have had their tack checked for correct fitting by a qualified saddler, and we advise that all horses have regular attendance by a qualified physiotherapist.

If you would like further information on the horse training services we offer, please contact.
